Yohan Blake in furious tirade at World Championships organisers as he blames Usain Bolt cramp on waiting through two medal ceremonies

Yohan Blake has accused London 2017 organisers of causing the injury that wrecked Usain Bolt’s farewell by leaving him waiting in the cold too long.

Bolt hit the deck with severe cramp in his hamstring halfway into the last leg of the 4x100m relay final – which Great Britain went on to win for their second gold of the World Championships.

It was a hugely anti-climactic way for the Jamaican legend to end his career and team-mate Blake was furious with the organisers, hitting out at being forced to wait 40 minutes in the call room before the start.

In that time there were two medal ceremonies, including the presentation of a 5,000m silver medal to Mo Farah, and Blake claimed the wait, which was exacerbated by a 10-minute delay to the scheduled start, caused Bolt’s injury.

He said: ‘I think they were holding us too long in the call room. The walk was too long. Usain was really cold. In fact Usain said to me, “Yohan, I think this is crazy. 40 minutes and two medal presentations before our run”.

‘We kept warming up and waiting, then warming up and waiting. I think it got the better of us. We were over warm. To see a true legend, a true champion go out there and struggling like that. The race was 10 minutes late and we were kept 40 minutes. Crazy.’
